Our Lessons

Baby and Toddler Swimming Classes

We recommend that babies start swimming with us after they have received all their immunisations. Our youngest Little Fin enrolled is four months old!

These classes have a maximum of five in the water with parents or carers. The lessons are based on fun with activities to build water confidence. Toys, music and games are integrated into the lesson with a three weekly rotation of lesson plans to ensure no one gets bored!

Pre School Swimming Lessons

All Little Fins three years and upwards are in the water on their own with the swimming teacher. These classes hold a maximum of four children and once again fun and activities are incorporated into the session plans so that children build confidence. Here stroke work, breathing techniques and responsibility are the core of the classes with the aim that by the time they reach school age our Little Fins can swim alone in the water for a number of strokes.

Primary School Swimming Lessons

description of the image

We have many different levels of classes within the timetable to accommodate for as many Little Fins as possible. Some have not been to us before reaching school age, and others have moved up the stages within our swim school and are more confident and able than others.

Beginners: these classes are for children who are unable to swim a width of a swimming pool on their own either without an adult or with the support of floats. Lessons will begin with the basic aquatic skills being taught and move through the ASA National Plan

Intermediate: children in these classes can swim a width of the pool on their own and effort will therefore be concentrated on developing stroke work and technique. Again our Little Fins move through the ASA National Plan and a teacher will be in the pool or on poolside depending on the ability of the group

Advanced: these classes have a teacher on poolside only and are able to swim a full length of the pool using stroke work. Again there are mixed levels of ability with some Little Fins fast approaching their final National Plan Level 5 and others just beginning length work where strokes and technique continue to be developed

Improver: here we offer classes for older children who may have left School of Dolphins to swim at school or in a club but feel that some more concentrated work needs to be done to improve strokes or correct technique. Little Fins must be able to swim a strong length of the pool
